The Watkins Glen Corning area offers a lot of educational and fun activity. Corning has the Corning Museum of Glass where you can see the history of glass development and the latest in glass art as well as an opportunity to shape your own piece of glass. The Rockwell Museum close by offers the opportunity to explore art about the American experience. Nearby Hammondsport offer the Glenn Curtis Museum with over 60,000 square feet of Vintage Planes, Motorcycles, Cars, and Boats for an exhibition on how aviation and motorcycle innovation grew in the area. Visit the Finger Lakes Boating Museum for view of the boating activities and boat building in the Finger Lakes region. Watkins Glen will be the highlight of the visit with an opportunity to “Drive the Glen” at the Watkins Glen International race track where we can take two laps in parade style with memorable pictures of your car on the track. In addition, a short drive (about 6 miles) is available to follow the old race track path around the outskirts of Watkins Glen (at local speed limits of course). Watkins Glen also offer some fine shopping, dining and hiking opportunities and is the gateway to the Seneca Lakes Wine trail. The entire Watkins Glen and Corning area offers many wineries and local microbrew locations to explore and perhaps find a new favorite wine or brew. We will have directions for the drives around the area.
Our weekend will start of course with the Great Unwashed Car on Wednesday evening followed by Dinner on your own. We will have a washing station at the hotel for cleanup for the car show. Thursday is your day to play and we will have directions to Hammondsport and Watkins Glen to explore those attractions of simply wander through Corning – all the activities are close by. Friday AM is the trip to Watkins Glen to do the “Drive the Glen” experience which should be the highlight of the weekend. A fun balance of the day can be completed in Watkins Glen area with the First Timers show and then dinner back at the hotel. Saturday AM is the Car Show, Models and Memorabilia and photo contest at the hotel with balance of the day to explore local attractions before the dinner Saturday night.
