Dear Register Members,
I have just returned from a week of planning the MG International Atlantic City 2021 event in Atlantic City and would like to share what I saw and what there is to look forward to.
The question on everyone's mind is of course Covid. Luckily Leslie and I have been able to get the vaccine and will be there. The hotel and the State are very aware of everyone's concerns. In the hotel you will find they have marked the floor for social distancing and are providing disinfectant lotion routinely through the hotel. I found the hotel rooms to be remarkably clean and the eating areas followed the guidelines impeccably. We - the T Register, the MG Council and the Hotel - have been keeping up with the New Jersey status for the better part of a year. This will be the first large event Harrah’s' has hosted since the pandemic. They are eager to “get back to normal” and look forward to having us. (Note: as of May 4, NJ is reopening with no restrictions on May 19)
So let me tell you a little more about the event. For starters, Harrah’s is giving us 2 floors of the valet parking garage for MG parking during the week. That means all the cars will be undercover in a protected area all the time while parked.
Tuesday during the day, will be technical presentations at the hotel. Also, there will be an area which you can bring your car to be looked over by John Twist. Much like our “Safety Fast Inspection”, but you can ask John anything you might be having an issue with. Tuesday night we will have a separate dinner from the other registers, with a very special speaker just for the T Register, after dinner, John Twist who will be speaking exclusively on the T cars.
Wednesday, there will be more technical sessions during the day and trips to Cape May and Simeon Museum. Wednesday night there will be a tribute to Hank Rippert before dinner on your own. Hank's car is being brought to the event by its new curator and will also be on display throughout the week.
Thursday is the Car Show and the Awards banquet. We were just out to the field for a look over. There is plenty of room to park a trailer and plenty of room for cars. The car show is being held at the 4H center in Egg Harbor. It is a nice background for the car show and helps support the future of agriculture education. There will be a pre-awards party for 2nd and 3rd place winners, then the 1st place winners will be awarded at the big awards ceremony.
If you haven't signed up for Atlantic City 2021/GOF Mk 106 please don't wait until the last minute. The Register needs to order dash plaques, awards, inserts for registration packets and all this needs to be done prior to the last minute.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
